ROOF INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE IN CALIFORNIA IN 2023- QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

The fact that you are here right now means one of two things- You’re planning to install a new roof, or your old roof needs some maintenance or repair- and you probably have questions you’d like answered.

Lucky for you, the answers you seek are here. So, without much ado, here are answers to 10 questions you may have about roof installation and maintenance in California. In principle, they may also apply to other locations across the United States.

SHOULD I INSTALL A NEW ROOF OR REPAIR THE OLD ONE?

That depends on several factors. For example, how old is your roof? Is it near its estimated lifespan? If yes, then it is best to replace it. Roofs past or close to their estimated lifespan are prone to damage and could cost you more on frequent repairs, in the long run, than installing a new one.

Another thing to consider is the extent of the damage to your roof. Was there a storm recently that damaged a significant portion of it? Did a huge tree fall right across it? Generally, if fixing it would require changing a large portion of the roof, it’s best to install a new one. Else, repairing it is the way to go.

SHOULD I FIX MY ROOF MYSELF?

We wouldn’t advise it. There is a plethora of risks involved with fixing a roof. You could get injured. More often than not, people who try to do it on their own end up calling a roofing contractor. These men have been trained and certified to do the job. So, please leave it to the professionals and save your limbs, time, and money.

HOW MUCH DOES THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW ROOF COST IN CALIFORNIA?

To answer that question, we’d have to consider the scope of the job. What is the size of the roof? What is its slope? Would you like to include flashings or other accessories to ensure longevity? What are the weather conditions like at present?

There is a lot to consider. Thus, to get a definitive answer to this question, contact us at Raaroofing for a reasonable estimate.

HOW MUCH DOES THE MAINTENANCE OF A ROOF COST IN CALIFORNIA IN 2023?

Again, it’s hard to say without knowing the scope of the job. The cost would depend on factors such as how much damage was done to the roof, the number of required replacements, how accessible the roof is, and lots more. We at Raaroofing will be all too happy to inspect your roof and give you an estimate of the associated cost.

HOW LONG DOES A ROOF INSTALLATION TAKE?

It can take anything from a few days to a few weeks. How extensive is the area over which the roof will be installed? How complex is your chosen design? Are weather conditions favorable? What roof material are you using? All of these will determine how long it will take for your roof to be installed.

HOW LONG WILL MY ROOF LAST?

Different types of roofs have different lifespans. For example, Metal and Tile roofs are known for their long lifespan, with the latter lasting up to 80 years. Roof materials made of slate can last anything between 50 and 200 years. Shingles can last from 15 to 50 years.

Of course, how long your roof lasts will also depend on the climatic conditions in your area. For example, Wood shakes or Shingles may not last as long as they normally would due to California’s high risk of wildfires. Other extreme weather conditions, such as high winds, heavy rainfall, etc., can significantly damage roofs and reduce their lifespan.

WHAT IS THE BEST ROOFING MATERIAL FOR MY HOME?

The best roofing material for your home may depend on your budget, prevalent climatic conditions, energy considerations, design, etc.

Once you have determined how much you are willing to spend on the roofing project, you can then proceed to analyze the weather conditions in the part of California where you live. Typically, Asphalt Shingles, Metal, Synthetic, and Clay or Concrete Tiles are favorites in many parts of the state. Contact our design team with your location for more specific advice.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET MY ROOF INSPECTED?

Generally, we advise that you inspect your roof at least once a year. But of course, this is not a one size fits all kind of advice. If your area experiences extreme weather conditions such as heavy storms, destructive winds, hail, etc., you should inspect your roof more frequently, preferably immediately after each event.

WHICH ROOFING CONTRACTOR IS BEST FOR ME?

Your roof is an integral part of your home. Hence anything short of the best could lead to discomfort for you and your family.

In choosing a roofing contractor, look for expertise and experience. The reviews on their website could give you an idea. Check for professionalism when you contact them. Are they communicative and responsive to your inquiries? That could be an indicator of how they’d handle your job. While you are at it, make sure they are licensed and insured. It also wouldn’t hurt to compare prices with other contractors within your area.

Our clients love us for our professionalism and expertise. We have been in the roofing business for over 15 years and are fully insured and licensed to operate in the United States. And since we’re in California, we’re right next door.
